Four disciplines, a shared question
STEM brings science, technology, engineering, and mathematics into a learning experience. An integrated task asks students to use ideas from more than one discipline to investigate a question or solve a problem. Equipment can support that work, but the question and student reasoning give it educational value.
What integration looks like
In an aviation task, students might use a map to plan a route, calculate a time estimate, operate a simulator, and explain a difference between the plan and the result. The subjects connect because the task needs them, rather than because they appear together on a worksheet.
Look for evidence of understanding
Ask what students will be able to explain after the activity. A visible calculation, a justified design choice, or a revised explanation provides more useful evidence than time spent using a device. Begin with a clear target and select the tools that serve it.
