Elementary aviation STEM curriculum

Build a foundation in observation, measurement, forces, weather, and teamwork.

Begin with a question students can see

Use a brief visual demonstration to ask what changes when an aircraft moves, turns, or climbs. Let students name observations in everyday language before introducing technical vocabulary. Drawings, arrows, and verbal explanations can make early scientific thinking visible without requiring advanced calculations.

Keep the task short and shared

A teacher-led simulator demonstration can support a whole-class conversation. For small groups, assign concrete jobs such as observing the view, drawing a route, or recording a measurement. Match the selected curriculum’s grade range to your students; STEMPilot’s digital Introduction to Aviation is listed for grades 3–12.

Select the materials before scheduling

Review the specific lesson plans, teacher resources, activities, and assessments included with your program. Choose a manageable starting mission and decide what students will do while another crew uses the simulator. Ask STEMPilot about teacher training and the curriculum edition in your proposal.

Try it in your classroom

Measure and describe

Students draw a route between familiar places, measure it using a classroom scale, and describe a visible change in a demonstration flight. Ask for an observation and a question, rather than a polished aviation explanation.
