Plan the learning target

A coding task should focus on a concept students can explain. Start with the relevant lesson in the selected program, identify what students already know, and decide what successful reasoning will look like. A visible movement provides feedback, but it does not replace an assessment.

Use a mission record

Ask teams to keep their plan, code version, prediction, and observation together. This creates a record of how their thinking changed. Pair programming or shared review can help students discuss choices, provided responsibilities rotate and every learner explains part of the solution.

Connect coding with the broader program
